Scholarships

 

PROFESSIONAL (Undergraduate and Entry Level Masters) AND POST-PROFESSIONAL (Masters and Doctoral) SCHOLARSHIPS

 

GENERAL INFORMATION

 

  • The NWATA scholarships are:

Naseby Rhinehart Scholarship (Professional) - $1500

Richard Irvin Scholarship (Professional)  -   $1500

Bill Robertson Scholarship (Professional) - $1500

NWATA Scholarship (Professional or Post-Professional) - $1500

Bob Peterson Scholarship (Post-Professional) - $1500

St. Luke’s Scholarship (Professional or Post-Professional individual interested in an emerging athletic training setting) - $500

NWATA Family Scholarship (dependent son or daughter of a NWATA certified member) - $500

 

  • Scholarships are awarded to those who are continuing their education and funds will be provided upon proof of enrollment.

  • Applications will be available online between November 1st to January 24th. The deadline for complete applications to be received in full is February 1st.

  • Only fully completed applications will be reviewed.

 

  • Scholarship recipients will be notified of their award no later than February 21th.

 

  • Unofficial transcripts must be emailed (NWATAscholarships@gmail.com) after you have completed the application.  The letters of recommendation must be emailed to NWATAscholarships@gmail.com.  The subject line should be the applicant's name. Letters must also be received by the February 1st deadline.

 

  • Scholarship recipients will be recognized at NWATA Clinical Symposium during the business meeting held in March each year.  It is recommended that scholarship recipients attend although it is not required to receive the awards.

APPLICATION REVIEW AND SELECTION CRITERIA:

 

  • Complete applications will be reviewed by the members of the Scholarship Committee, and scored using a standard rubric (20% GPA, 30% letters of recommendation, 20% awards/athletic training experiences/community service, 30% student statements) The Scholarship Chair will compile scores and applicants will be ranked.

 

 

SPECIFIC CRITERIA – PROFESSIONAL (Undergraduate or Entry Level Masters) SCHOLARSHIPS:

 

  • The following represent minimum criteria to be considered for a Professional Scholarship:

 

Currently enrolled in a CAATE-accredited professional athletic training program located geographically within NWATA.

Cumulative GPA of “B” (3.0) or higher and Major GPA of “B” (3.0) or higher

Current student membership in NWATA and NATA

Sponsorship by an Athletic Trainer who is a current member in good standing of the NWATA and NATA

 

  • The following information and items must be submitted after you have completed the online application:

Complete all required information on application

Answers to the five questions on application

Copy of unofficial transcript   (submit to email NWATAscholarships@gmail.com)

Names of two people who will provide letters of recommendation (submit to email NWATAscholarships@gmail.com)

Two letters of recommendation must be emailed to NWATAscholarships@gmail.com.  The subject line should be the applicant's name.

ONE letter of recommendation must come from a professor, program director, clinical education coordinator, department head, or academic advisor.

The SECOND letter of recommendation must come from a preceptor, team physician, or other healthcare professional who is familiar with the clinical performance of the applicant.

The sponsoring athletic trainer must provide one of the above letters of recommendation.

It must be the intent of the applicant for this scholarship that he or she pursues the profession of athletic training or related field as a means of livelihood.

SPECIFIC CRITERIA – POST-PROFESSIONAL (Masters or Doctoral) SCHOLARSHIPS:

 

  • The following represent minimum criteria to be considered for a Post-Professional Scholarship:

Currently a BOC certified and state credentialed athletic trainer OR eligible for BOC certification at the end of the current academic year.

 

Currently enrolled in a graduate-level degree program (masters or doctoral) with one or more years remaining at time of application

 

Enrolled in a CAATE-accredited professional athletic training program located geographically within NWATA.

 

  • Cumulative GPA of “B” (3.0) or higher and Major GPA of “B” (3.0) or higher in an average of current and previous academic programs

 

  • Current membership in NWATA and NATA.
     

  • Sponsorship by an Athletic Trainer who is a current member in good standing of the NWATA and NATA.

 

  • The following information and items must be submitted after you have completed the online application:

SPECIFIC CRITERIA – NWATA Family Scholarship

 

Eligibility:

  • Applicant must be a non-married, dependent son or daughter of a member in good standing of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA)/Northwest Athletic Trainers’ Association (NWATA) prior to the application deadline.

  • Applicant must be accepted or enrolled full-time at a college/university undergraduate course of study the same year of application.

  • If eligible, applicants may reapply for scholarship annually.

 

Please submit the following:

  • Completed application form with required signatures.

  • Resume with required applicant information (submit to email NWATAscholarships@gmail.com)

  • Applicant Personal Essay (One page in length). (submit to email NWATAscholarships@gmail.com)

  • Most recent official transcript from current institution(s). (submit to email NWATAscholarships@gmail.com)

  • Two letters of recommendation (One from a professor/teacher and one from any of the following: coach, administrator, counselor, academic advisor or employer.) (submit to email NWATAscholarships@gmail.com)

 

Deadline:  February 1st (must be submitted by this date)

  • Submitted application . Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applications will be reviewed by NWATA Scholarship Committee. Award recipients will be notified by committee representative. Award announcements will be made at the NWATA Conference. Scholarship applicants, parents, friends or relatives are not allowed to contact members of the scholarship committee.

  • Preference will be given to those in good academic standing with both strong essays and letters of recommendations. Awards will be applied towards the recipient’s college education. Each award will go directly to the recipient pending proof of enrollment.

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT REQUIREMENTS

 

If I am awarded a NWATA Scholarship I agree to fulfill the following criteria as a responsibility for acceptance: 

  1. Scholarship recipient must provide written acceptance from the Registrar of the college or university verifying applicant’s enrollment and full-time status. Letter must have imprint of institution’s official seal and be signed by the registrar. Student must be enrolled in post-professional program in order to receive the scholarship.

  2. Submit a photograph to the committee and grant permission allowing NWATA to use this photograph in its endeavors.

  3. I understand that by accepting a NWATA Scholarship that I am giving permission to the NWATA Scholarship Committee and NWATA to use my name and photograph in any and all advertisements that notify the public of said award winners.
